TETRIS SHOPHOUSE HOTEL

This boutique shophouse hotel at Paya Lebar consists of 15 loft rooms. We successfully obtained the change of use from URA for an area that was not generally allowed to have new hotels for the past 10 years. Drawing on the history of the precinct, which used to house coconut plantations and mills, lemongrass factories and a tramline, the concept emerged from this melting pot of botany and industry.
The interiors employ aromatic pressed panels with florals, botanical green and natural woods. Each room consists of a loft bed, and is self contained with a bathroom and pantry area. To optimise the use of space within a linear, elongated lot, the rooms are imagined as tetris blocks that overlap each other, creating dynamic internal volumes.
